My name is Derek Tilbury, and I would like to welcome you to the website of the District Grand Lodge of Gibraltar. It is the home of English Freemasonry in Gibraltar.
The site is open to Freemasons & non-Freemasons alike and is intended to provide as much information as possible to those wishing to find out more about our ancient and worthy organisation, as well as those considering joining.
Freemasonry is among the world’s oldest social and charitable organisations and has existed un-interrupted in Gibraltar since the early eighteenth century. It is the first organisation established in Gibraltar which is still in existence.
In today’s often divided and uncertain world, the four fundamental principles of Freemasonry: Integrity, Friendship, Respect and Charity, are as relevant as at any time in our history.
Gibraltar Freemasons play an active role in our community, donating our time and skills for good causes, and each year supporting a wide range of local charities through grants and donations.
Freemasons come from all walks of life but meet as equals to enjoy the experiences of forming new friendships, exploring Freemasonry’s rich history, supporting local good causes and being part of an organization comprising six million members worldwide.
Whatever your reason for visiting our website, I trust you will find it interesting and enlightening.
“So far as I am acquainted with the principles and doctrines of Freemasonry,
I conceive it to be founded in benevolence and to be exercised only for the good of mankind.”
“The importance of improvement, setting an example, and shouldering responsibility for the future are our Masonic goals.”
“As we continue to improve ourselves in Masonry, we are indeed improving life.
We know from history that without ideals to guide us,
the garden of a man’s life will not grow into a place of beauty.”
“I ask of each Mason, of each member, of each brother, that he shall remember ever that
there is upon him a peculiar obligation to show himself in every respect a good citizen”
“We can only know the fullest joys of Masonry when we truly walk the paths of service and of hard work in the quarries.”
“Courage is the first of human qualities, because it is the quality which guarantees all the others.”
“Freemasonry is ‘veiled in allegory and illustrated by symbols’ because these are the surest way by which moral and ethical truths may be taught.”
“It is not only with the brain and with the mind that the initiate must take Freemasonry but also with the heart.”
